Acquisition Details

The Great Lakes Film Collection, peerless in its holdings, is a significant fine art and rights catalog composed of three thousand archivally prepared film plates, three thousand correlating digital masters, and a navigational database comprising historical and technical information for each film plate. It also includes ninety signed, single-edition exhibition prints.

Material to this offering is the conveyance of photographic publishing rights through a Copyright Transfer Agreement, which grants the acquiring party all legal rights of ownership and use.

3,000 FILM PLATES

The collection is comprised of 3,000 diapositive (color-reversal), black and white, and color-negative film plates. These photographs were chosen from a body of work involving tens of thousands of film plates made over thirty years time. Through an extensive and discerning process, the final photographs were curated to reveal an unparalleled artistic narrative of the North American Great Lakes.

NAVIGATIONAL COLLECTION DATABASE

The offering includes a Navigational Database which is searchable and sortable. The database organizes each film plate by process of: photograph title, film plate number, year photographed, camera used, film-type used, and original filming location.

SINGLE EDITION PRINT COLLECTION

The collection includes three print portfolios; each one holding thirty rare exhibition prints never before released to the public. Each print portfolio will be selected, printed, and signed by Ed Wargin.

HIGH-RESOLUTION DIGITAL MASTERS

There are 3,000 matching High-Resolution Digital Reproduction Masters (tiffs) in this offering. Each Reproduction Master correlates to its original film counterpart. Each master was scanned, digitized, and color corrected by the artist directly in the studio.

JPEG COMPANION MASTER FILES

The collection includes 3,000 JPEG Companion Files for visual database navigation as well as digital onboarding purposes.

COPYRIGHT TRANSFER AGREEMENT

The Great Lakes Film Collection includes a complete conveyance of photographic publishing rights which will be established through a Copyright Transfer Agreement. This document will transfer copyright to the buyer, granting them full legal rights of ownership and use.

“Ed describes himself as a photographer. He is that – an award-winning, first-class one – but he is more. He sees beneath surfaces and into depths. He is a poet, scientist, and painter all at once.”

— David Dempsey, Author and Leading Great Lakes Environmentalist
